Ice fishing in Lapland Sweden

Ice fishing is as hard as it is exciting, and maybe that is why it is so popular.

There are many lakes in Tärnafjällen in the North of Sweden. In the winter a lot of people choose to go to Tärnasjön, which is located about 40 kilometres from Tärnaby. At Tärnasjön and at most of the lakes around the area, you can catch char and salmon trout. Please note that different fishing licenses are valid at different lakes.

The fishing ground of Tärna is a unification of several different areas, it reaches from Ajaure in the south to Portbron in the north.

We are putting a whole lot of effort in keeping our snowmobile trails in good condition. We want them to be useful for everybody. These trails are usually well marked with a bunch of twigs or with red ribbons. The snowmobile can take you on beautiful tours for miles, both in bare mountain terrain, in mountain forests and out to the frozen lakes.

Arctic Char

  • The Arctic Char is the symbol of Lapland. It is different from other fishes in the salmon family. Why? Its scale is smaller and it has light dots against a silvery background, in the autumn, during the spawning times it gets a characteristic red colour on the paunch.

Salmon Trout

  • The salmon trout reminds a lot about the salmon, but the salmon trout has more dots. Just like the salmon it has the characteristic fin of fat. The salmon trout is normally smaller than the salmon. The salmon trout has a silvery colour with a greenish or brownish back, it has black and red spots along its side and it is common that it has a yellow colour underside.
