Hiking Trails in Hemavan Lappland

We have trails for everybody. You can choose among day-tours and longer weekly tours. Common for every hike is that you hike in the largest wilderness in Europe, the Vindelfjällens National Park. Through Vindelfjällens National Park goes The Kungsleden, a 450 kilometres long hiking trail between Abisko and Hemavan. A popular rout is to hike between Hemavan and Ammarnäs, a 75 kilometres long trail.

When you hike between Hemavan and Ammarnäs you need to spend some nights in the wilderness. If you don’t want to carry heavy equipment and tent you can use cottages owned by STF. Contact us for further information and the possobillities to have an experienced guide joining your hiking trip.

The 440 kilometres long Kungsleden starts at Fjällparken in Hemavan. A number of shorter hiking trails starts from Fjällparken too.

Drottningleden. This trail with its beautiful views passes the Mortsbäcken and continues up to the bare mountain. After 8 kilometres walking you will reach Laisaliden.

Trollstigen. This is a shorter but steeper trail with beautiful views. After 3 kilometres you will reach Mortsbäcken.

Kobåset. At first you hike along Kungsleden and when you reach the Mountain plateau by centrumliften, you can point hike down to Nedre Tvärbäck, past the Laplanders tent and up to the bare mountain. Hike freely over the moor, wade across Övre Tvärbäcken and continue through the narrow valley of Kobåset.

Blomsterfjället. A popular destination is Gieravardo with Portbron as starting point. This is a perfect trip if you are interested in alpine plants and want to experience beautiful nature. The trail goes through a luxuriant birch forest, passes the Korsa Bäcken and up to the bare mountains. Hike for as far away as you want, maybe you want to stop by at the mast to bath your feet in the little mountain-lake just below the mast.

Atoklinten. Hiking at the Lapps sacred mountain is something you have to do when you are visiting Tärnafjällen. The trail starts at Boxfjäll and goes through birch forest and continues up to the bare mountain. When you have reached the top of Atoklinten you will have a wonderful view over the mountains. Sign your name in the book at the top of the mountain.

Gurkfjället. The trail to Gurkfjället starts at Solberg. Park your car at Fjällgården. The hiking starts through deep birch forest and continues up to the mountain ridge to the mountaintop. At the mountaintop you will find yourself 895 metres above the sea. At midsummer can see the whole sun-disc at midnight thanks to the great view from the top. The trail is 30 kilometres long single way.

Viterskalstugan. The hikers with some stamina can start this trail at Fjällparken and follow the Kungsleden. The more comfortable hikers can use the Norrliften (ski lift) for transportation. When you have left the civilisation behind you, you will start hiking through birch forest, which slowly changes to bare mountain. The trail follows the valley of Syterbäcken and high mountain peaks surround you. The trail is 12 kilometres single way for those who start at Fjällparken. You will need to stop for coffee- and food-breaks, and probably stay a night. Reliable hiking shoes are required.

Ruttjebäcken. Take one of our guided tours or take the car to Ruttjebäcken. We will start at the little village of Rönäs, located by the valley of Tängvattnet. The trail follows the Istidsälven which has giant pots, tunnels and canals. These tunnels and canals have been created by erosion from the streaming water. Choose the length of your tour.

From Klippen to Dalåive. You can park you car seven kilometres west of Hemavan. The trail will start with a steep rising through a birch forest. Take a rest by the windshield on the plateau. Continue your hiking towards the top of the mountain, 1337 metres above the sea. The view over the Norwegian peaks and the water of Överuman is magnificent. The distance between the car parking and the mountaintop is about 4 kilometres.

Jofjället. Use Joeström as your starting point. The trail is winding up through birch forest. When you pass a mountain brook, take the opportunity to drink the fresh water. You will reach the lake of Genaren after 2 kilometres. If you have a fishing licence you should try to catch a salmon trout or a char. The Jofjället offers a lot of good fishing waters and good trails for those who want to continue hiking.
