Dog Sledding in Lapland

The day starts at Hemavan Outdoor where we leave for the kennel. At the kennel you will receive information about the dogs that are from the breed Alaskan Husky. We will make sure that you have enough clothes, and clothes that will keep you warm during the whole day. You can try to drive your own dogsled if you want. You don’t need any previous knowledge to drive a dogsled; the guides will show you some useful tips.

When all the sleds are packed with all the necessary equipment and everybody have warm clothing we leave the kennel. We drive over the frozen lake of Boksjön, through the forest and up to the bare mountain. The route depends on the weather condition. After some driving we stop and let the dogs and passengers rest and recover some energy. Coffee will be made in a sooty coffee-pot over the open fire; a skin rug from a reindeer will work as a warm seat. When the warmth and the energy are back in your body the tour continues.

To ride a dogsled in Lapland is a wonderful experience. It gives you a closeness to the magnificent nature and the dogs that pulls the whole equipage. You can really feel the energy from the dogs radiating when they take off and set course to the mountain.

You can choose among a half-day tour, full day tour or two-day tour with a night stay in a wooden cottage.
